The breathtaking caldera, the volcano and the romantic sunset, elements that make Santorini one of the top places to visit in the world. Perched on the edge of steep cliffs, the picturesque villages of Santorini offer great view to the Aegean Sea and the submerged volcano.
The island of Santorini is the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands.
The top attraction is the island itself. Sugar-cube houses pasted onto the high cliff tops of Fira’s caldera (crater), washed by the cobalt Aegean and a light so pure and bright it makes you blink. Watched over by its famous volcano and steeped in lost-city-of-Atlantis myth, this is the Greece of photogenic sunsets and Hollywood backdrops, of blue-domed churches and donkey rides.
Arrival in Santorini and check in at the four or five star, ideally located hotel (see the Suggested Hotels section).
In the afternoon visit to Oia. A unique sight is the various layers of lava that can be seen on the face of the rock, each layer being another phase of the activity of the volcano. Explore the village walking along the cobble-stone streets and the white washed houses with blue shutters where one gets the impression that they are a beautiful travel poster.
Dinner at a cliffperched restaurant, overlooking the Caldera, under the candlelight.
Boat trip to the Volcano. Enjoy a motorboat cruise around the active crater of Nea Kameni islet. Sail along the strange formations of its volcanic shores, where black lava rocks and white pumice are combined beautifully with the red colour of lava. Take a walk to the top of the volcanic island where sulphur is spewed into the air by one of the craters. Take time to swim in the warm waters heated by Hot Springs on the sea floor.
Dinner at a gourmet restaurant in Fira with outstanding innovative Greek cuisine and fabulous view.
Use the morning time to relax at your hotel’s swimming pool and enjoy the unprecedented views. In the afternoon, it is time to leave Santorini, with the memories of an astounding island and continue your Greece experience to the beautiful islands.
